Heritage League of Greater Kansas City Records (0743kc)

The Heritage League was conceived as a round-table forum or consortia of organizations with benefits derived from improved communication and the potential of cooperative programming among the 100 or so historical agencies in the greater Kansas City area. Representatives of a variety of organizations began meeting each month informally in October 1980, to share information and establish contacts and working relationships. In 1983, the League formalized by establishing a constitution and by-laws, and electing a Board of Directors. They charged a nominal membership fee which supported the activities of the organization including the production and mailing of a quarterly newsletter. The League was incorporated in the State of Missouri on February 6, 1984, as a not-for-profit corporation. From the outset it was agreed that the League's purpose was to raise community awareness and build support for the Kansas City region's unique history and the museums and organizations dedicated to preserving it. They have offered many events and activities designed for community or organizational education.

This collection consists of incorporation papers, constitution, by-laws, minutes and agendas, correspondence, and special events, programs, and workshops initiated by the group. Financial records and membership lists are also included. 1980-1993.
