Film Society of Greater Kansas City Records (1028kc)

In the spring of 1991, ten people from varied backgrounds and occupations got together to pursue their common interest—love of movies.  They decided to start an organization where movie lovers could gather to watch films; talk about them; and learn more about the film industry, past and present.  The mission statement of the Film Society of Greater Kansas City was “to provide a social format for film enthusiasts to view and discuss films; to learn about and advance Kansas City’s film legacy; and to encourage local filmmaking from within the community.”

In 1994, the Society began an annual film festival which included screenings, awards, and seminars.

The collection consists of minutes, printed material, clippings, newsletters, and other materials concerning the activities of the Film Society.  Minutes, planning and printed materials, and clippings are also included from the Film Fests 1994-1996. 1991 - 2000.
