James H. Roberts (1831-1909) Diary (1207kc)
James H. Roberts wrote in this diary beginning in 1858, until 1909. He lived during his early years in Ohio, later moving to Missouri. He built houses, made and sold brooms, taught school, and owned a small mercantile store briefly. Mr. Roberts was interested in Spiritualism. His second wife and one of his daughters were mediums.
This collection consists of a handwritten 143 page diary consisting of both shorthand and longhand entries. Entries were made every year on the writer’s birthday, beginning at the age of 27, continuing until his death at 78. 1858-1909.
