Louise Wilder Smith Tierney Papers (KC0032)


Louise Wilder Smith Tierney was a Missouri native who was interested in creative writing and historical research.  As Louise Wilder Smith, she entered into competition an original script for use in the Fort Osage Pageant in June 1953.  Her entry won the competition, and the script was adapted into a play by the John B. Rogers Producing Company.  In 1971, she married William L. Tierney.  Mrs. Tierney was active in the Kansas City Quill Club, serving as its president in 1980, and in numerous other civic organizations.

These papers include a carbon copy of the 1953 typescript of Mrs. Tierney’s play “Fort Osage–Mother of the West.”  There is some press material in the collection as well as a souvenir program for the Fort Osage Pageant of June 22-27, 1953. 1953.
