Gash Family Papers (KC0137)
In 1832 Joseph D. and Eliza Gash emigrated from Buncombe County, North Carolina, and began farming in Gallatin Township, Clay County, Missouri. Joseph Gash died in 1851 and Eliza Gash died in 1865.
Their descendants, including seven children, lived in or near Barry, Clay County, Missouri. The Gash family was related by marriage to such prominent Clay County individuals and families as Dan Carpenter and the Sparks family.
Ms. Helen F. Smither, a descendant of the Gash family, gathered as much material as she could locate on them. She organized the material, which included letters, diaries, photographs, land transfer documents, and related family papers, into four notebooks. Three of the notebooks include material pertaining to the Gash family, including a collection of data located after the original compilation was complete. The fourth notebook included copies of correspondence between various Gash cousins. 1769-1952.
