Carnegie Culture Club Records (KC0143)
On March 19, 1903, a group of ladies from South Saint Joseph met at the Carnegie Library to organize a ladies' study club. They selected the name Carnegie Culture Club to honor Andrew Carnegie and his work in making library and cultural events available to people across the country. The Club's basic objective is the cultural enrichment for its members. It has been an active member of the Missouri Federation of Women's Clubs and the National Federation of Women's Clubs. It has also taken an active role in St. Joseph civic circles, contributing, as it is able, to the improvement of the city's cultural resources.
This collection consists of an incomplete set of minute books, official documents, and historical materials for a women's cultural club in St. Joseph, Missouri. Annual booklets, photographs, newspaper clippings, programs, and other material related to the club's history are included in the scrapbooks. Constitutions and bylaws are included as part of the minute books for the first and third volumes and are also included as separate documents for 1938. 1903-1982.
