Community Survey for Kansas City Foundations Report (KC196)

In the mid-1940s, a group of philanthropic leaders and trustees for family trusts in Kansas City began to consolidate their administrative activities to provide better support for the general welfare in Kansas City. This pioneering effort in trust development and administration led to the establishment of the Kansas City Association of Trusts and Foundations (KCATF) in 1949. The KCATF emerged in response to the growing complexity of charitable activities and the need for thorough research and evaluation of programs and aims. In anticipation of the legal creation of KCATF, leaders of Kansas City area trusts employed Community Surveys, Inc., of New York City to evaluate the social, health, recreational, and educational needs of Kansas City and to develop a prioritized blueprint for philanthropic support in the community. In 1948, Community Surveys, Inc., issued its report in near published form. 1948
