Eleanor (Ellen) Waddle McCoy (1818-1893) Papers (KC226)


Ellen Waddle McCoy was born and lived in Chillicothe, Ohio, until 1850, when she married William McCoy (1813-1900), who had moved from there to Independence, Missouri, with his brother, John, in 1838. They operated an outfitting business together, and William later became a banker. He was also the first mayor of Independence. William and Ellen McCoy had two children, Nancy and Allen.

This collection consists of four letters to Ellen McCoy. Three were written to her from Independence, Missouri, and one from Washington, D.C. 1838-1863
