Eudora Email Settings

Note: UMKC no longer supports Eudora, and these instructions are provided for your information on an as-is basis only. These instructions are primarily for the Windows version of Eudora, but the same settings apply for the Mac and Linux versions.  (The menus will vary slightly.)

Eudora OSE 1.x

  1. Launch Eudora
  2. Next to your name, type your name
  3. Next to email address, type your email address (sso@umkc.edu)
  4. Next to password, type your SSO password
  5. Click Continue
  6. Click Stop
  7. Click Manual Setup
  8. In the left pane, select Server Settings
  9. Next to server name, type imap4.exchange.umkc.edu
  10. In the left pane, click outgoing server (SMTP)
  11. Verify that the server name is smtp.exchange.umkc.edu and the port is 587
  12. Click OK

Eudora 7.x

(Skip to Existing Eudora Clients section if you have previously configured Eudora on your machine.)

  1. Start Eudora.
  2. If this is your first time using Eudora on this machine, you will be prompted to make Eudora your default email client.  Choose yes if you are only going to use Eudora for your email.
  3. Select your Eudora ads mode.
  4. Click 'next' on the new accounts wizard.
  5. Select 'create a brand new email account' and click 'next'.
  6. Enter your name, and click 'next'.  This should look like this:
  7. Enter your Exchange email address, and click 'next'.  (This should be: username@umkc.edu) This should look like this:
  8. Enter your Exchange username, and click 'next'.  This should look like this:
  9. For your incoming server type: imap4.exchange.umkc.edu , and select IMAP as the server type.  Then click 'next'.  This should look like this:
  10. Leave location prefix blank, then click 'next'.
  11. For outgoing server type: smtp.exchange.umkc.edu , and make sure 'allow authentication' is checked.  Then click 'next'.  This should look like this:
  12. Click 'Finish' to save your settings.
  13. Enter your password when prompted, and click OK.
  14. Go to the Tools menu, and select Options.  This should look like this:
  15. Select the 'Sending Mail' option on the left side of the screen.
  16. Check the box for 'Use submission port (587)', and click OK to save.  This should look like this:
  17. If when checking or sending email, you get a certificate error, select Yes.  This should look like this:

 

Existing Eudora Clients:

  1. Download the latest update to your Eudora client.  You will likely need version 7 for the necessary SMTP changes.
  2. Start Eudora.
  3. Go to Tools -> Options.
  4. Under 'getting started' fill in your real name, your email address (username@umkc.edu) , incoming mail server as: imap4.exchange.umkc.edu , login name as your Exchange username, SMTP server as: smtp.exchange.umkc.edu , and check-mark 'allow authentication'.
  5. Click on 'incoming mail' in the left column.
  6. On the right column select IMAP as the server type.
  7. Click OK to save your settings.
  8. Go to step 15 above to setup the necessary SMTP changes.
