Description of Collection holdings: Materials include Kansas City, Kansas, Wyandotte County, and early Kansas histories. General public library collection of books, periodicals, sound recordings, tapes, videotapes and CDs. Special collection includes books on Kansas City, Kansas, Wyandotte County, and Kansas. This latter collection includes early biographies, county and state histories, state and local publications, and books by and about Kansans. We have Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri city directories from 1887 to present, Kansas City metropolitan area telephone books from 1924 to date, Kansas City, Kansas school yearbooks from 1905 to date, and area newspapers from the late 1800's to date. Materials in the William E. Connelley Collection include pictures, diaries, correspondence, and other manuscripts of and about the Wyandot Indians. Kansas state census 1865-1875 and Wyandotte County 1885-1925; Federal census 1855-1900 for Kansas, and 1910 for Wyandotte County.

Description of Collection holdings: Related mostly to the Kansas City region from the 1830's to the 1980's, the Archives contain photographs, motion picture films, maps, posters, postcards, sound recordings, books, and original artwork as well as business and organizational records, oral histories, family papers, and cultural ephemera. Photographic images and cultural ephemera constitute particular strengths as do collections related to local aviation history, city planning, local business, art and entertainment, technology, and social life. Scope of the Collection: Collect published and unpublished material concerning Kansas City, Missouri and surrounding areas. Some genealogical records for Kansas and Missouri are collected as well.

Description of Collection holdings: Extensive collection on local history (index of the Kansas City Star and Times from 1900 to present). Books published on Kansas City history, Missouri and Kansas history, some dating back to the 1850's. We have a large collection of year books for the KC school district, an extensive photograph collection covering streets, buildings, events, and people, from the Kansas City area. Collection includes genealogy material covering the states from which Missouri residents emigrated, as well as books on doing research in Europe. We have an extensive collection of census indexes and plan to continue adding these to our collection. We purchase materials written by Missouri and Kansas authors, including fiction and poetry. We have a research collection regarding Black history and contributions. The collections include approximately 41,546 volumes. We have a collection of Kansas City and Missouri imprints and collections of music, photographs and ephemera from local musicians Joe Sanders and Charles Johnson.

Description of Collection holdings: The Kansas State Archives contains papers relating to individuals, businesses, churches, organizations, and events in Kansas and the Midwest; westward migration and territorial expansion; and the Civil War; correspondence and payroll records of the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe Railway and its predecessors. Papers of Frederick Funston, Lucy B. Johnson, Alf M. Landon, Isaac McCoy, the New England Emigrant Aid Company, Theodore Schellenberg, Eugene F. Ware, and the St. Louis Superintendency of the Office of Indian Affairs; photographs of Kansas, the central plains and the western U.S.; manuscript maps of Kansas and the West; microfilm copies of records and papers of individuals, churches and businesses in private hands. The State Archives holds records of the Supreme Court, Board of Agriculture, Office of the Governor, Insurance Department, Secretary of State and other State agencies, as well as original State and territorial censuses and enumerations, territorial records, and some county and municipal records.

Description of Collection holdings: The University Archives of Kansas State University contains inactive records of the institution and manuscript collections. Because of its land-grant mission the records focus on activities related to agriculture, human ecology, engineering, architecture, business, education, veterinary medicine, and arts and sciences. Manuscript collections and organizational records associated with K-State's research programs and academic strengths are collected. The following types of material are included in the holdings: university records, manuscript collections, literary papers, diaries and journals, photographs, broadsides, maps, audio visual items, oral histories, and printed material. Within the Archives is the Consumer Movement Archives, which includes papers of consumer leaders and records of consumer organizations. The volume of archival and manuscript holdings is approximately 3,000 linear feet and spans the years 1854 to the present.
