The holdings at this repository will be useful to various researchers- historians, folklorists, linguists, historic preservationists, genealogists, and those interested in local history or the history of a particular organization. In addition to the more traditional political, military and diplomatic records, users will find information on religion, education, the professions, ethnic and social groupings and movements, all aspects of the economy, etymology, and data on the lives of both famous and obscure individuals.
Description of Collection holdings: This repository contains over 12,500 linear feet of paper and photographic records, 7300 rolls of microfilm, and over 4,500 audio and video recordings. The collections date from the 18th century, with the heaviest concentration in the 19th and 20th centuries. Unpublished guides and finding aids are available to the public as well as a published guide on microfiche of the holdings of the four WHMC campuses. The Western Historical Manuscript Collection comprises the manuscript holdings of both the University of Missouri and the State Historical Society of Missouri, and branches are located on all four campuses of the University of Missouri.
