The vice provost/CIO oversees three divisions within Information Management: Information Services (creation, transport and storage of information); Information Access (enterprise systems and campus level dissemination of information); and Institutional Research (use of information in strategic decision making). The vice provost/CIO also has oversight of the Center for International Academic Programs and serves on a variety of committees that partner UMKC Academic Affairs with the rest of the campus and with the UM System.

The vice provost and dean of the School of Graduate Studies has oversight of faculty and academic appointments, faculty awards, leaves of absence, grievances, faculty promotion and tenure, and the Student Conduct Code. The vice provost also provides support for faculty governance of graduate education, has administrative management of the interdisciplinary Ph.D. program, oversees new and revised graduate programs, graduate student financial support and awards, new graduate courses and graduate catalog, and offers the administrative oversight for the Institute for Human Development.

The vice provost for Academic Affairs oversees faculty development, undergraduate research, student assessment and academic program review, as well as reviewing all undergraduate course and academic program proposals/modifications. Her role also involves supporting projects and initiatives implemented by the provost and the UM System as needed, including the University’s Strategic Plan. Through collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and faculty colleagues, the vice provost is also working to expand student retention strategies and the development of an early alert program.

The Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development oversees the Office of Research Services (ORS), the Institute for Human Development (IHD), and the UMKC Innovation Center encompassing all of the research and economic development initiatives at UMKC. The IHD conducts and collaborates on a wide variety of Applied Research projects to develop, implement, and evaluate new ideas and promising practices for improved delivery of support services. The Innovation Center partners with the university and the community to spark entrepreneurial efforts that translate research discoveries and innovations into profitable, job-creating businesses. The Vice Chancellor's Office also provides assistance to faculty and staff to improve grant and contract award success. These support services include award packet development, pre-award budget help, application assembly, electronic submission and post award management. The ORS is responsible for the management of all research grants and awards consistent with the university policy, those of funding agencies, and federal regulations. In addition, the Office manages compliance with federal, state, and local and institutional regulatory practices; and oversees the Office of Technology Transfer to help UMKC researchers share their discoveries with the world.

The Associate Vice Provost for the University College facilitates efforts towards the development and implementation of programs and services that positively affect undergraduate student success. The Associate Vice Provost is responsible for the implementation of UMKC's University College: providing oversight of assessment related to University College programs; supporting students in the University College as they transition into academic programs at UMKC; leading cross-college initiatives and programs in collaboration with academic college/schools; and working closely with Student Affairs to ensure coordinated support services for students in the University College.

Nathan leads the university’s assessment initiatives for the improvement of learning and the reaffirmation of accreditation. He oversees the HLC Assessment Academy Team; chairs the University Assessment Committee; works with assessment coordinators in Academic Affairs and other areas across campus; manages the university’s web-based assessment inventory system (WEAVEonline); and works with the FaCET leadership to provide ongoing faculty development in assessment for student learning. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in Higher Education Administration.

The Associate Vice Provost of Online Education works to develop quality online education experiences at UMKC, and assists faculty and staff in matters of developing, improving, and implementing online courses. This includes working with an advisory committee to develop and articulate a plan for e-learning at UMKC, assisting with development of new online degree programs, and providing support to those programs that are currently providing online education experiences for their students.

Dan Chambers is responsible for the overall business and fiscal operations in the Office of Provost, which includes areas within VC Academic Affairs and University Communications. This includes the oversight and day-to-day operations in the areas of human resources, payroll, budgeting, procurement, and fiscal review, reconciliation and reporting. He received both his B.S. in Business Administration and M.B.A. from Columbia College.
