Founded in 1931 by ten men belonging to AZA as a club affiliated with
Jewish fraternities in the Greater Kansas City Jewish Community, the Irari Club
held its first regular meeting on April 22 (the first informal meeting having
been held on March 18) and immediately began cooperating with fraternities in
planning social and community events, the first being attending a dance hosted
by the Alpha Delta Lamba Fraternity in May. Towards the end of the decade, the
club began the tradition of holding New Years Eve parties at the Brookside Hotel
which continued well into the 1950s. Featuring long-standing members, including
President David Brockman, Treasurer Hy Vile (also editor of the club’s humor
magazine, The Irari Hammer) and
Secretary Sidney Magazine, the Irari Club adhered to the tradition of holding
monthly meetings at the homes of respective members throughout the years,
reaching its 100th meeting on November 19, 1936 and its 500th
on November 25, 1957, whereby an elaborate sign-in book was designed for the
occasion. On May 6, 1981, the club celebrated its 50th anniversary in
a lavish dinner held at the Oakwood Country Club with the surviving original
members all in attendance.
Records include minutes,
correspondence, publications, financial records, and photographs and news
articles concerning the activities and members of the Foundation.
