Native Sons of Greater Kansas City Archives
The
Native Sons and Daughters of Greater Kansas City
began collecting material for their archives virtually from its
founding in 1932. Its most serious efforts, however, occurred in
the late 1940s through the early 1960s. During that time the Native
Sons Archives (NSA), under the
guidance of James Anderson and George Fuller Green, gathered an
impressive collection on 19th and early 20th century Kansas City
history. WHMC-KC received the collection in 1990 as the Native
Sons of Greater Kansas City Archives (0590kc). Because the many smaller
collections contained in the NSA could more
effectively be identified individually, it was determined they
would be 'broken out' and assigned their own collection numbers.
Moreover, because the Native Sons and Daughters of Greater Kansas City is still
an active organization, WHMC-KC wished to provide a means for the NSA
to continue to grow.
Below is a list of the collections that were part of the
NSA accession, as well as new material collected by
WHMC-KC on behalf of NSA. This includes some
collections which were partly gathered by the Native Sons and to
which we have made additions.
The Western Historical Manuscript Collection is pleased to
cooperate with the Native Sons and Daughters of Greater Kansas City in insuring
these valuable documents are preserved and made available.
