Frank Olin Babcock (1916-2003) Papers (1518kc)


Frank O. Babcock was born in Lone Elm, KS and graduated from Welda High School. He was married three times to his first wife, Gladys; his second wife, Carolyn, both of whom predeceased him. His third wife was Jean Coover [Jean Coover Babcock (1944-    ) Papers (0956kc)].  Mr. Babcock had two sons, Nolan and William and a daughter, Fran (Mrs. Werner); stepsons, Hires Gage, Colin Gage; and stepdaughters, Betse Gage and Georganne Gage Walters.  He was a resident of Kansas City and Johnson County from 1956 to 1998.

Frank Babcock was Executive Vice-President of the Associated Plumbing Contractors and the Mechanical Contractors of Greater Kansas City, 33 years before retiring in 1990. He served as a consultant to the Pipe Fitting and Air Conditioning Council of Greater Kansas City. He was secretary to the Plumbers and the Pipe Fitters Joint Apprenticeship Committees, the Pipe Fitter Pension, Health and Welfare Fund, and the Heart of America Chapter of the National Certified Pipe Welding Bureau. He was a co-administrator of the Plumber and Pipe Fitter Fringe Benefit Office and trustee for the Plumber Pension and Vacation Funds. Nationally he served as chairman of the National Energy Services Association (NESA), National Alliance of Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors (NAPHCC), as well as for the Mechanical Service Contractors of America (MCAA).

Mr. Babcock was previously Executive Secretary of the Wichita and the Kansas Plumbing Contractors Association. He worked for the B.F. Goodrich and the Chevrolet Motor Companies in Topeka before he joined the Army, December 12, 1941. He served until 1946 when he was discharged as a Captain in the Finance Division.

Frank Olin Babcock died June 22, 2003, at his home in Lake Worth, Florida.
