The Hugh & Vassie Ward Home in Sunset Hill.
While the home of Seth Ward, Hugh’s father, is noted with a large marker for its role in the Battle of Westport, few Kansas Citians know that the real master of Ward Parkway lived in this much larger home on 52nd Street. It overlooked the Kansas City Country Club grounds [now mostly comprising Loose Park] which the Ward family leased to the KCCC from 1896 to 1926. Vassie James Ward married Dr. A. Ross Hill, president of the University of Missouri, in 1919. She continued to live in this home until her death in 1954.
