TRASH AND RECYCLING
TRASH
Trash is picked up weekly by the City of Kansas City at no cost to residents. Our normally scheduled trash collection day is Friday. This is changed to Saturday should a holiday fall during the week. You are limited to a maximum of two trash bags each week with each bag weighing under 40 pounds. We ask that you refrain from putting your trash out on the curb earlier than Thursday evening. This helps keep the neighborhood looking good and gives the wild animals that consider your trash their dinner less time to enjoy their meal. It is your responsibility to clean up your curb should a bag be opened and trash tossed or blown around the neighborhood. Please do your best to keep your trash properly contained. Trash should never be to stored outside your residence prior to trash pickup unless properly stored in a garbage can with a secured lid. However, the City will not empty garbage cans; they will only accept trash bags.
RECYCLING
The City of Kansas City offers a curbside recycling program that our tenants are encouraged to use. Recyclables are picked up by the city every other week on the regular garbage day (Friday). If your residence does not already have a blue recycling container and you wish to participate in the program, please see the Kansas City environmental waste management website at www.kcmo.org/recyclefirst for more information. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU CANNOT RECYCLE GLASS AT THIS TIME IN CURBSIDE RECYCLING BINS. Bins are to be used for collecting paper, cardboard, aluminum cans and certain plastics. Do your best to help the environment and recycle.
A community drop-off recycling program is also available that takes additional recyclable materials. The nearest location is one block east of 48th and Troost and is operated by Bridging the Gap.
LARGE ITEM PICK-UP
The City of Kansas City does provide bulky item pick-up at your curb once every two months. This is for items too large for a normal garbage pick-up. This service is provided in the Rockhill Crest neighborhood on the 28 th of every even-numbered month (i.e., February, April, June, etc.) Please do not place any bulky items on the curb before 3 pm the day before the scheduled pickup. Note that bulky Items left out on the curb at any other time may be removed by UMKC with a charge assessed to your security deposit
