Safety and Insurance
SAFETY
The best security system begins with you and every resident in our neighborhood. Remember to always keep your doors and windows locked and never leave anything of value in your car. Always be aware that we live in an urban environment. Make sure you are a good neighbor and report any suspicious behavior and call 911and report it immediately. You may also contact the UMKC Police Department at 816-235-1515. Sometimes they can respond and help before the city police can arrive.
If you are going to be away from your residence for any extended period of time, you might want to take the following precautions:
• Inform a trustworthy neighbor of when you are leaving, when you will be back and how you may be reached. Have them pick up your mail and newspapers, so there will be no visible sign that no-one is home.
• Use timers to turn on and off lights at various times.
INSURANCE
The University has no insurance that would cover the tenant's personal property or liability. It is strongly recommended that the tenant obtain renter's insurance. Check with your auto insurance carrier for renter's insurance.
Some students can be covered on their parents' policy with certain qualifications. You may also locate an insurance company at the Missouri Department of Insurance web site.
