Department of Environmental Health and Safety

Recent news reports are drawing attention to Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in the public school systems in and around Kansas City. It is our desire to facilitate a healthy and safe educational environment by providing the UMKC community with up-to-date information concerning this bacteria.

Please review this fact sheet taken from the Center for Disease Control Web site, www.cdc.gov. We encourage faculty, staff and students to reduce the risk of infection by practicing proper hygiene (e.g., wash your hands, cover cuts and avoid sharing personal items that directly contact bare skin). Early treatment of suspected MRSA is important. If you have concerns about a wound please consult your healthcare provider.
