Doug combines a wide knowledge of organizational structure and professional development gathered through years of employment in the business sector (including Marion Laboratories, Butler Manufacturing and over 20 years at UMKC) and training in the behavioral sciences. His academic degrees are in psychology and social science with an emphasis in organizational behavior.
Doug is a sought after speaker known to motivate his audiences toward positive action. He has been the featured speaker at many regional and national events. He is available to speak and participate at various UMKC Faculty and Staff functions.
Doug provides strategic direction for Human Resources and devotes his efforts to creating and enhancing strategic alliances both on and off campus.

Jill manages the Compensation/Classification and Benefits functions for Human Resources. She consults on issues related to the classification of jobs and compensation, as well as offering support related to the variety of benefits available to faculty and staff. In addition, she oversees campus grievance issues, serving as one of the campus grievance representatives. Along with the other HR leaders, she serves as an HR generalist in the office providing policy interpretation, assisting with employee relations issues or any other HR functions. Jill is currently one of three campus representatives on the Faculty and Staff Benefits Retirement Committee appointed by the President of the University System. She is available to assist in any capacity in the absence of the Associate Vice Chancellor.

Carol provides leadership and oversight for the HRIS and Payroll functions and directs all Employee Relations activities. She provides consulting services on a full range of human resource issues with the goal of helping the University Community reduce and better manage difficult workplace situations, with an emphasis on promoting positive management practices. Services to management and employees include: performance management coaching, advice and workshops facilitating action plans to address workplace issues, and advising the campus on employee relations matters. Carol also is available to support and advise managers in developing opportunities for employee recognition and professional growth. Along with the other HR managers, she serves as an HR generalist in the office providing policy interpretation and assisting with other HR functional issues. Carol also is available to assist in any capacity in the absence of the Associate Vice Chancellor.

Kelly supervises the recruitment staff and supports training initiatives on campus. She is involved with core curriculum design as well as the facilitation of various training and development programs offered to campus. She offers training and recruitment solutions to support successful hiring and retaining highly competent and engaged people throughout all levels of the organization. Kelly works with campus employees who have lost their jobs due to reorganization or layoffs. Specifically, Kelly meets with individuals or groups to offer resume/interview advise as well as job search services. Kelly advises and supports managers with all facets of the recruitment process to ensure compliance with University policies and procedures. Kelly is available to discuss a variety of recruitment solutions such as: strategies associated with workforce planning, diverse recruitment sources, customized recruitment strategies, interviewing and selection guidelines/resources, resume/interview coaching, job search assistance and search committee resources.

Lee coordinates and facilitates new employee orientation and new-hire paperwork sessions for the UMKC Staff. Lee is responsible for screening applications, scheduling interviews and performing reference checks on potential new hires. Lee advises and provides support to hiring managers with all facets of the recruitment process, including coordinating/processing all recruitment paperwork, making salary offer recommendations, and extending job offers. Lee is responsible for coordinating the random drug screening for the campus. Lee represents UMKC at regional career fairs; working to identify and recruit a diverse group of qualified candidates. Lee is also an elected member of the UMKC Staff Council Governing Board and is very active in partnering with committees throughout the UMKC Community.

Dedra Sanders leads the day to day project related to document imaging. The Human Resource office now scans images of employment documents for storage to allow for electronic management of files instead of paper. The current concentration is focused on imaging of current active employee documentation.

Diane supervises the processing of payroll activity for the Kansas City campus. She is available to assist in more complicated issues related to payroll or paychecks. She is also the resident expert in assisting with taxation as it relates to an international independent contractors and employees. Diane serves on the System-wide Tax Committee to address issues that cross campus boundaries and served as the IRS Acceptance Agent for UMKC.

Sheila is essential in providing the campus with accurate and timely support for monthly and biweekly payroll processing. She is the primary contact for general questions regarding payroll and paychecks, taxes, garnishments, child support, or direct deposits. Sheila is also available to assist designated department representatives with Webtime training and other Webtime issues.

Kim provides information and answers regarding changes to your W-4 and W-2 forms, direct deposits or deductions from paychecks, such as parking, Swinney Recreation or the United Way. She provides guidance to international student employees and scholars in the completion of the forms required to verify and validate their particular tax status. Kim also assists in the HRIS area providing data entry support for record changes.

Ted supervises the campus communication regarding benefits and ensures the proper enrollment for eligible employees who choose to participate in the programs made available by the University. Ted can also provide information regarding retirement eligibility, service credit and clarify questions you may have regarding a retirement estimate. He can assist in helping with more complicated benefit enrollment issues. Ted is also the primary contact for employees regarding the Family Medical Leave Act.

Ruby can assist with any employee question or issue related to benefits enrollment or clarification of any of the benefit plans. She can be contacted to solve problems related to dates of coverage, identification cards and general benefit concerns. Jane is available to assist with compensation and classification related questions. She guides management through the classification and reclassification process, salary analyses and provides consultation on reorganizations. As a compensation analyst, Jane will perform a job analysis and evaluation for administrative positions, develop or review job descriptions and assess appropriate compensation level, and provide guidance related to the Fair Labor Standards Act regarding exempt and non-exempt classifications.

Carol supervises the maintenance of the Human Resources Database records in addition to ensuring legislative and compliance guidelines are met with regard to the appropriate documentation of employees. Carol can also assist with general employee concerns as an individual or as a supervisor needing policy clarification. In addition to meeting compliance needs, she is responsible for the integrity of the Human Resources data. Included in HR data is personal information for the employee, statistical data regarding employment, payroll data, and benefit enrollment information. Carol is a member of the HR System- wide Core Team representing the Kansas City campus on issues related to HR data base and technical needs. She reviews and writes training materials and is a trainer participating in the “Train-the-Trainer” program.

Cathy serves as primary Information Systems technical support for Human Resources functioning as an analyst and programming specialist. Requests for reports from the HR PeopleSoft database should be directed to Cathy. Cathy designs reporting strategies and applications that include the regular delivery of standard reports and also responds to ad hoc requests from other members of the Human Resources team and from UMKC staff outside of HR. Cathy maintains the HR Web Site and designs custom web-based applications that address needs that are not addressed by PeopleSoft. Cathy meets with customers to outline their reporting needs, plans, designs, programs and tests applications, and then documents the outcome of application development and implementation. She maintains applications as changes in the network and PeopleSoft occur. Cathy is an IT Liaison, a member of the Data Integrity and Reporting Group (DIRG), and networks extensively with IT professionals throughout UMKC and UM to stay current with new developments in computer technology and with security considerations and concerns.

Steve meets with new administrative employees during orientation to ensure the receipt of proper employment documentation. He screens all PAF’s for compliance and verifies the validity of the actions being requested. He is responsible for data entry for most changes to an employee record. Steve can assist an employee or manager with the proper completion of a PAF or many other forms. Address changes and corrections can be e-mailed directly to Steve also. When reports are run to check the validity of data, he investigates, works with the department when necessary and makes corrections. He also coordinates the delivery of service awards for administrative employees.

Gaile serves as a Senior Human Resource Specialist in our Employee Relations area. As the Senior HR Specialist, Gaile interprets University personnel policies to faculty, staff, students and union representatives. Gaile also assists in developing and documenting interpretations and procedures related to administration of university policies. She administers HR programs, conducts exit interviews and analyzes data.

Jill serves as a Senior Human Resource Specialist in our Training and Professional Development area. In her role, Jill assesses the training needs of UMKC employees and assists in the design, development, and delivery of those training programs. UMKC Human Resources provides a variety of training programs that are designed to help employees perform their jobs more effectively or develop specific skills for opportunities of greater responsibility.
