Faculty/Staff Permits
Most faculty and staff members purchase a UMKC parking permit while employed with the University, although an employee may choose to park and pay at the meters.
Faculty/staff permits are currently $44 per month or $528 for the academic year. Employees of the University can choose to pay up front for their permit or have $44 per month deducted from their paycheck. According to the commuter benefit program, an employee can choose to have their parking deducted before taxes. Employees who pay for their parking up front cannot take advantage of the pre-taxed benefit.
Employees who are part-time and work two days or fewer per week may purchase a parking permit on a prorated basis. The permit issued to employees is validated for the specific days of the week the employee will be on campus. The current rate for part-time parking is $99 per semester. To qualify for a prorated permit, the employee’s department head or supervisor must notify Parking Operations in writing of the pertinent facts of employment.
Applications for employee parking permits are available in the Parking Operations office. Once an employee has signed up for parking, they will be issued a permit that will remain valid until the expiration date listed on the permit. Permits are automatically renewed and a new permit is sent via campus mail to the employee upon expiration of a parking permit.
Parking is not prorated for portions of the month. No refunds for parking permits will be issued.
Vehicles displaying a valid UMKC employee-parking permit can be parked in all permit areas on campus. The UMKC faculty/staff permit is valid on the UMKC campus only and is not valid on any other University of Missouri campuses.
The UMKC faculty/staff parking permit is valid on any vehicle the employee drives but is not transferable to another individual.
Employees are subject to all UMKC traffic and parking regulations. In the event an employee receives a parking violation, they are subject to pay or appeal the fee in ten (10) days. If the violation is not paid in a timely manner or dismissed upon appeal, the fee may be deducted from employee pay by payroll deduction.
If an employee wants to stop their payroll deduction for parking they must fill out a stop payroll deduction form and return their UMKC parking permit to the Parking Operations office. If an employee fails to return the parking permit, their payroll deduction will continue until the expiration date of the permit issued to them.
If an employee leaves the University and the payroll deduction for their parking ceases, the permit issued to them will be revoked and any vehicle displaying such permit will be subject to immobilization or towing. The vehicle will also be issued a $65 parking violation for attempting to circumvent the UMKC Traffic and Parking Regulations.
One-day Permits
One-day scratch off hangtags are available for purchase by visitors, employees or students by using the online form. The current rate is $7 per hangtag. Purchases of 200 or more hangtags will be at a rate of $5 per hangtag.
Hangtags are valid for the day indicated by scratching off the appropriate day, month, and year. Visitor one-day hangtags are valid in designated spaces in any lot on campus and at any meter. Faculty/Staff one-day hangtags are valid only in faculty staff and student permit areas. Student one-day permits are valid only in student permit areas. Faculty/Staff and student one-day hangtags are not valid at parking meters. They are not for use in disabled spaces (except with an appropriate state disability plate or hangtag), driveways, Authorized Vehicle Only space, or in any other space designated by signage for special purpose.
As always, individuals may choose to park and pay at the meters located throughout campus.
If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact Parking Operations at 816-235-5256, or by e-mail.
Disability Permits
A UMKC disability parking permit allows an individual to park their vehicle in faculty/staff and student permit areas 24 hours per day. To validly park in a designated handicap space, you must have both a UMKC disability parking permit and a state-issued plate or placard. A state-issued disability plate or placard and a UMKC permit are required to use designated handicap spaces in permit lots.
A physician’s statement of need or proof that the state-issued plate or placard belongs to the applicant may be required for any vehicle parking in these spaces on the UMKC campus. Individuals who require disability parking should contact the Parking Operations office. A disability permit is $106 per semester and must be renewed each semester.
There are several designated handicap parking spaces on campus that are metered. Individuals must display a state-issued disability plate or placard and pay the meter.
Motorcycle, moped, motor-scooter Permits
Motorcycles, mopeds and motor scooters may not be parked in any bicycle rack, building or entranceway to any building, and when so parked shall be issued a University violation notification and may be removed from the area. Permit applicants applying only for a motorcycle permit will be charged half the current fee for the permit type issued. Applicants applying for a motorcycle permit as a secondary permit will be issued a motorcycle permit at no charge. Vehicles not displaying a parking permit must park in the metered parking areas specified for motorcycle, mopeds and motor scooters and must pay the meter. There are permit and metered spaces on the UMKC campus reserved specifically for the parking of motorcycles, motor-scooters and mopeds. Individuals issued student motorcycle permits may park in any non-metered area reserved by appropriate signs for the parking of motorcycles, motor-scooters and mopeds, including those areas in faculty/ staff permit lots.
