Regular Admissions for High School Graduating Seniors:
Admission to UMKC is designed to reflect a student's probable success at the University. Admission is based on the high school curriculum and an ACT / class rank combination.

1. High School Curriculum: Students admitted to UMKC are expected to have followed a college-preparatory curriculum that includes at least 17 units of credit (with each unit equaling one year in class), as follows:

4 Units of English:

One of which may be in speech or debate (Please note that 2 units emphasizing composition or writing skills are required).

Acceptable: English 9,10,11,12;English Literature, speech, debate, journalism etc.
Not Acceptable: Yearbook, Acting, Theater, Drama, Business English and Media

4 Units of Mathematics (Algebra I or higher) :

This requirement may be satisfied by the completion of courses in Middle School, Junior High or Senior High.

Acceptable: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry/Analytic Geometry, Calculus, Math Analysis.
Not Acceptable: Computer Math, Programming, Consumer Math, Pre-algebra, Accounting, Basic Math, Technical Math, Computer Science

3 Units of Science (Not including General Science):

The three units of science MUST include a laboratory course and MUST include units from at least two of the following areas: Physical Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences. This requirement may be satisfied by the completion of course in middle school, junior high, or senior high.

Acceptable: Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics etc.
Not Acceptable: General Science, Vo-Ag or Agricultural Science

3 Units of Social Studies:

Acceptable:World History, American History, American Government, Principles of Democracy etc.

2 Units of a Single Foreign Language:

This requirement may be satisfied by the completion of courses in middle school, junior high or senior high; or by a passing score on a proficiency examination.

1 Unit of Fine Arts:

Acceptable: Art, Music, Drama & Dance
Not Acceptable: Allied Arts, Literature, Foreign Language, Speech, Debate

2. Test Scores (ACT or SAT) and Class Rank Percentile: Students who have the required core curriculum and who receive an ACT composite score of 24 or higher or the total of the SAT verbal and math scores is 1100 or higher, will meet admission to UMKC. The writing sections of the ACT or the SAT will not affect admission.

Any students attending a Missouri High School that does not rank and achieves a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale in the 17 unit core curriculum will meet admission to UMKC.

Minimum Combination of Test Scores (ACT or SAT) and Class Rank Percentile: Those students who have completed the required 17 unit core curriculum but who do not meet the criteria outlined above should have a combination of high school class rank percentile and ACT score that meets or exceeds the values in the table below:

Priority Undergraduate Admissions:

Priority deadlines for UMKC's undergraduate programs are as follows:

Fall Semester: April 1st
Winter Semester: Nov. 1st
Summer Semester: May 1st

Can I apply after the priority deadline date?

Yes! Students whose applications are filed after the priority deadline and those whose admission files are not complete by the deadline may still be considered for admission (except to selective programs).
