The 8th International Conference on Supplemental Instruction

May 23rd- May 25th, 2014

Westin Michigan Avenue

Chicago, Illinois, USA

The 2014 International Conference—“Miles of PosSIbilities”—is inspired by the transformation of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, and by the boundless potential Supplemental Instruction has to connect students to their universities and their communities. Chicago’s Michigan Avenue—known famously as the Magnificent Mile—underwent similar shifts to achieve its current international prominence. Originally a modest trading post in the Midwest, developers and community groups devised the “Chicago Plan” to grow North Chicago into a vital, commercial hub, which included the construction of the Michigan Avenue Bridge in 1913 to connect with South Chicago. More than one hundred years later, Michigan Avenue is still one of the premier retail districts in the world. This spirit of innovation, connection, and resilience continues to inform the work we do in Supplemental Instruction. Your dedication and the dedication of your student leaders, administrators and institutions continue to propel SI into the future. It is with this energy and momentum that we would like to welcome you to the 8th International Conference on Supplemental Instruction. It is our hope that this world-wide collaboration will provide each of us an opportunity in Chicago to think beyond our borders and imagine what is possible.
