With a comprehensive science-based curriculum, the Bachelor of Health Sciences degree combines urban-focused coursework in health policy, health program development, health and wellness, and population health outcomes. With a combination of coursework, service learning, volunteerism, and a senior year internship, students will apply theoretical concepts in evidence-based health programming and policy development in community settings.
The UMKC BHS Degree Program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for a wide variety of careers in health or to pursue post-graduate education. The BHS program includes coursework in the physical, biological, behavioral, business and social aspects of health. The UMKC BHS Degree Program is the perfect choice for students who are interested in a career in health. UMKC is offering the BHS in response to the growing workforce demand for health-prepared graduates in a wide variety of fields. The BHS will prepare students for management or leadership positions, and to become more competitive in the health job market. Just a few of the possibilities include working in hospital administration, as a public health educator, wellness coordinator, pharmaceutical sales representative, community relations coordinator, and medical and health service managers.
The UMKC BHS Degree Program will also prepare those students who wish to apply to enter a graduate healthcare professional licensed program, or to an Accelerated Nursing program. Graduate healthcare profession programs include physical therapy, occupational therapy, dentistry, pharmacy, medicine, and speech-language pathology. Professional and graduate programs in healthcare accept students with a variety of degrees, and the BHS provides a strong foundation for students pursuing allied health careers.
