A dark world is explored in three technically brilliant sequences about a "snuff" film, the
murder of a retarded adult with mental disabilities by his troubled father, and the making of
the atomic bomb as perceived by the uninformed wives of secretive scientists.

Ken Lauter completed his B.A. at the University of Missouri-Kansas City before taking an M.A. at
the University of Michigan on a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship. Afterward, he did doctoral work in
English literature at Washington University in St. Louis. He has won a Hopwood Award in poetry
at the University of Michigan. His work has appeared in Poetry Bag, Laurel Review,
Cottonwood Review, The University Review, and The Mississippi Valley Review.
He is the author of The Other Side.
