Mirrors the disruption of the last two decades in vivid, economical language. His lines are
frequently short and explosive. Through many of his poems, a voice pleads for reason and
sanity. --Kansas City Star
Alfred Kisubi's narrative and elegiac poems show admirable compassion and adroit
statement-making explicitness which I respect.
Clearly his poetry is in the tradition of African prophecy and proclamation, one that
includes distinguished voices such as those of Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, Dennis Brutus
and Okot P'Bitek. -- Andrew Salkey
Alfred Kisubi is the ember about to flame full. This may be the moment before the light of
the world's lamp shines full in the face of his special genius. Listen to his voice and you
hear the voice of Africa, the voice of man trying to become despite all trouble, an
optimism that will not submerge in the presence of the most difficult truths. --Dan Jaffe

Alfred Kisubi survived the Idi Amin regime in Uganda, made his way to Kenya and from there to
the United States. He is an associate professor of human services at the University of
Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He received his master's degree in sociology and a Ph.D. in education at
the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He is also the author of Race and Ethnic
Relations in the Third Person.
