Center for Academic Development

About CAD
The Center for Academic Development (CAD), initiated in 1973, uses knowledge derived from research to solve learning problems in student academic achievement. Through the integration of theory and practice, the CAD develops effective programs to help students realize their full potential. A major component of the Center’s Mission is the retention of students.
The CAD’s staff is interdisciplinary, versatile, cross-trained, and committed to its mission. Each program benefits from having the talents of each staff member interwoven through them. The versatility of the Center’s staff also contributes to the role in serving as an important bridge between the campus and community. In an age of specialization, the CAD has sought to develop generalists; this emphasis has served UMKC well in its response to diverse campus priorities.
