This presentation focused on the learning-theory base from which SI
evolved. It also provided national and international research on SI,
including various applications of SI, and how SI impacts student
success. Participants interacted while practicing typical SI session
activities. Materials that contain current data on SI were included
along with samples of handouts from sessions and training workshops.

“Using Mentoring to Enhance Supplemental Instruction”
At the National SI Center, we
have been using experienced SI leaders to serve as peer mentors for new
SI leaders. This arrangement works well as it’s a natural fit for
students to be working with other students ,plus it helps with the
supervision needs of large SI programs. This presentation utilized the
SI Mentoring manual and provided activities and strategies for
participants to use on their campuses.
