Peer Coach Responsibilities & Requirements

Peer Coach Responsibilities:
- Attend initial and ongoing bi-weekly trainings
- Provide students one-on-one support and guidance in individual weekly meetings
- Help students set and achieve short-term educational and life goals

Provide hands-on support to assigned students:
- Planning daily schedules with students
- Encouraging student engagement on campus
- Assisting students in locating campus offices or resources
- Attending occasional lectures with students to gain insight about how the student might better prepare for that class
- Guide them through library resources
- Attend campus cultural events with students
- Assist Academic Coordinators in facilitating A&S 100 sessions
- Turn in weekly logs on student communication
- Model good student behavior
Requirements:
- UMKC undergraduate or graduate student
- Must have completed two or more semesters at UMKC
- Enrolled full time
- 2.75 minimum GPA
- Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
- Knowledge/understanding of 1st year student issues
- Highly responsible, positive attitude toward college, ability to motivate students, exemplifies ideal role model
- Have genuine interest in seeing students succeed
- Have experience working with diverse student populations
- Knowledge of UMKC Resources helpful, but not required
