CAD Staff

Position:  Work-Study Office Assistant

Coaching Program

Position:  Peer Coach

Program: Coaching

Description:  Peer Coaches serves as mentors and role models for first year UMKC Students involved with the Coaching Program. The Peer Coach will be assigned to 1-3 new students, and will be responsible for meeting weekly with each student in order to provide one-on-one support and guidance on issues such as time management, study skills, campus engagement, and goal setting. Additionally, Peer Coaches are required to attend one small group meeting each week (with other Peer Coaches, Coaching Students, and an Academic Coordinator), attend initial two-day and bi-weekly ongoing trainings with the Program Coordinator, and turn in tracking logs each week. You must be available to attend the initial training on August 15-16, 2006.

Jumpstart Program

Position:  Corps Member

Program: Jumpstart

Description:  The Jumpstart Corps member position is open to college students committed to Jumpstart’s mission to work toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed and who are able to serve 10-12 hours per week (for a total of at least 200 to 300 hours, depending on the site) during the school year. Corps members partner with children from low-income backgrounds to help them build skills crucial to school success. Responsibilities include participating in two two-hour Jumpstart sessions each week with partner child and team, participating in two team planning meetings each week, serving four to six hours each week in a preschool classroom during the regular school day, communicating with partner child’s family and sharing strategies for helping the child, participating in intensive pre- and in-service training, and attending periodic service days, usually held on Saturdays.

Math Resource Center

Position:  Math Tutor

Program: Math Resource Center

Description:  Tutor students who need help in math.

Qualifications: Must have successfully completed math courses up to Calculus II.

Supplemental Instruction Program

Position:  SI Leader

Program: Supplemental Instruction

Description: SI Leaders facilitate group study sessions for selected UMKC courses.

Position:  SI Mentor

Program: Supplemental Instruction

Description: SI Mentors are experienced SI Leaders who observe and plan with leaders

Qualifications: Must have experience as an SI leader to apply.

Video-based Supplemental Instruction Program

Position:  VSI Facilitator (Algebra, Chemistry, and History)*

Program: VSI Program

Description:  Facilitate the course by showing video lectures, assigning and checking homework, and administering exams.  This position is a 20 hour a week commitment. About 10 hours will be spent in the classroom, and the other 10 hours will be spent preparing for the class sessions throughout the week and office hours.

Qualifications: Must be junior, senior, or graduate students in the subject areas. Preference towards graduate students and education majors. Must be able to attain training August 16 and 17, 2007.

Position:  Intern

Program: VSI Program

Description:  This 10-hour per week position is a intern for the VSI program. Responsibilities include creating reports, organizing files, and additional responsibilities. Compensation is out-of-state tuition to in-state tuition waiver for up to 9 graduate hours. (Note: If you have received the CNR waiver, you are not applicable for this tuition wavier.)

Qualifications: Must be graduate student proficient in math and have experience with Microsoft Office.

Upward Bound Program

Position:  Tutor (Math, Science, English, and History)

Program: Upward Bound

Description:  Upward Bound is a college preparatory program that provides academic services to its participants. There are four tutoring positions available in Math, Science, English, and History.

Qualifications: Must be a sophomore, junior or senior in good academic standing. GPA 2.5 or higher

Position:  Test Prep Instructor

Program: Upward Bound

Description:  Upward Bound is a college preparatory program for first generation/and/or income contingent students. As a part of their preparation for college, students are required to prepare for national college entrance exams. Test Prep Instructors teach testing skills to college prep students on the campus of UMKC. Classes are from 9am-12pm two Saturdays a month or once during the week. Instructor(s) must have knowledge in test taking strategies to increase student performance on national ACT and SAT exams.

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 1 year of teaching experience.
  • Missouri or State Teaching Certificate preferred.
  • Be available to work part-time on Saturday mornings.

Position:  Summer Academy Instructor  (6 Positions Available)  (13 hours per week for 6 weeks)

Program: Upward Bound

Description: UMKC Upward Bound is a college preparatory program that serves students from the KCMO school district. We are funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Summer Academy is a six-week residential program. Participants (40) will live in a UMKC resident hall while taking college prep courses. This position will be great for individuals who enjoy working with bright college bound high school students in small classroom settings has a teacher/instructor in the areas of Math, Science, Social Science, English, Foreign Language or Study Skills.

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 1 year of teaching experience.
  • Missouri or State Teaching Certificate preferred.
  • BA or Master's in Education or related field of study preferred.
  • Must be available to work part-time during June and July.

Position:  Resident Assistant & Resident Director (7 RA & 1 RD Position(s) Available)  (40 hours per week for 6 weeks)

Program: Upward Bound

Description: UMKC Upward Bound is a college preparatory program that serves students from the KCMO school district. We are funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Summer Academy is a six-week residential program. Participants (40) will live in a UMKC resident hall while taking college prep courses. This position will be great for individuals who enjoy working with bright college bound high school students in small classroom settings as a mentor and residential supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer prior experience working with high school students.
  • Must be available to work full-time during June and July.
  • GPA 2.5 or higher
  • Students applying must be a college sophomore or higher
  • Required to live on campus in the dorms during the program
