Welcome from the Director
Dear Colleagues,
As Executive Director of the International Center for SI and VSI, it is my pleasure to extend an invitation to you to attend the 6th International Conference on Supplemental Instruction in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
The conference will provide a unique opportunity for delegates to hear from national and international practitioners about the latest research and best practices related to SI, VSI, variations of SI/VSI, and other peer collaborative learning initiatives, such as tutoring, mentoring, and peer learning group models. SI’s enduring focus on student success, motivation, and retention recognizes the importance of bringing students together to connect with one another and collectively engage in the learning process. We demonstrate our commitment to these objectives every other year, when we convene to share ideas, learn new approaches, link up with colleagues, and reconnect with old friends.
We have planned for you a full slate of activities including general sessions, workshops, concurrent sessions, roundtable discussions, refereed paper presentations, and poster sessions – as well as numerous networking opportunities. We are also pleased to announce that our keynote speakers will be Dr. Alastair J. S. Summerlee, President & Vice Chancellor at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, and Dr. Saundra Yancy McGuire, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Learning and Teaching at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. These colleagues have supported SI for many years and we are very excited to have them be a part of our conference. We also see this as a great opportunity for students involved with SI to attend, and encourage you to submit proposals that include them.
The conference is being held at The Loews Hotel New Orleans, which should add to your enjoyment of this iconic American city. I am looking forward to meeting with you.
