Gerontology Minor and Certificate Program

An interdisciplinary undergraduate gerontology minor and a gerontology graduate certificate program are offered through The College of Arts and Sciences Continuing Education Division and the Center on Aging Studies. The minor is available to any undergraduate enrolled in a bachelor's degree program. The graduate certificate can be completed either in conjunction with a degree program or as a free-standing credential. Students in such diverse fields as sociology, psychology, social work, nursing, dental hygiene, pharmacy and counseling have completed the certificate. Students must declare their intention to pursue the certificate or minor to their adviser and to the gerontology adviser in the Center on Aging Studies. As the number and proportion of older adults in the population increases, career opportunities in a variety of arenas are on the rise.

Eighteen credit hours are required to complete the minor or certificate. Course requirements and options vary slightly between the undergraduate and graduate level.
