The City of Kansas City, Missouri had scheduled demolition and replacement of the Troost Bridge at Brush Creek to begin in late June, 2010. The year-long project has been begun. The $13.5 million dollar project will also add pedestrian passage along that portion of Troost Avenue and improve storm and sewer water management.

We’ve been notified that the contractor will begin work on the construction of the new 47th Terrace on Sept. 8. This street will be north of 4747 Troost. Parking in the remaining lot and along 48th street will become UMKC permit parking only. The only available meter parking will be in the lot at 4825 Troost.

  • Troost Bridge project street closings
    As part of the on-going Troost Bridge replacement project, there are two significant street closures that are planned for September. The first closure on the September 7th will close Volker Boulevard will be closed for 10 days and then re-open with two lanes for approximately one year. For a map of detours scroll down.

    The Troost Bridge is now officially closed for the next 11 months while the current bridge is demolished and the new bridge is constructed. Please follow all detours to access the 4825 Troost Building.

    The first is the closure at the intersection of Troost Avenue and Volker Boulevard for improvements to the sanitary sewer, storm sewer, watermain and KCPL improvements. This closure is planned for no more than 10 days. Detours will include traffic using Emanuel Cleaver Boulevard as well as Rockhill Road and Paseo Boulevard. Once the closure is complete, Volker Boulevard will then be restricted to one lane for east-bound traffic and one lane for west-bound traffic for approximately one year.

    The second is the full closure of the Troost Bridge between Emanuel Cleaver Boulevard and Volker Boulevard and will be done for the demolition/replacement of the Troost Bridge itself. The full closure of the Troost Bridge will begin September 7th and will last 11 months. Detours will include traffic routing to Rockhill Road and Paseo Boulevard.
  • On Foot

    There are alternative ways to reach us on foot rather than over the former Troost Bridge. Please explore which is most convenient and safest for you.

Please follow posted detour signs and allow sufficient time to reach your appointments in the 4825 Troost Building.


Follow the orange routes on the map to get to the 4825 Troost Building. Troost south of Emmanuel Cleaver II Boulevard is only open to local and UMKC traffic.

  • Traveling East or West on Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard, turn South on Troost. The entrance to the parking lot will be on the left hand side of the road just before the "Road Closed" barriers.
  • Traveling East on Volker Boulevard turn left (North) on Rockhill Road. Turn right (East) on Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard, turn South on Troost. The entrance to the parking lot will be on the left hand side of the road just before the "Road Closed" barriers.
  • Traveling West on Volker Boulevard turn right (North) on The Paseo. Turn left (West) on Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard. Please be aware that a left hand turn is not permitted during certain hours - follow all traffic laws. Turn South on Troost. The entrance to the parking lot will be on the left hand side of the road just before the "Road Closed" barriers.

Updates

As of Monday, September 20, 2010 the following changes will affect parking in your area:

  • Parking on 48th street, between Troost Avenue and Forest Avenue, will be converted to an eleven space faculty/staff parking area and a UMKC parking permit will be required.
  • Across the street (area east of Forest), in the old recycling center parking lot, there will be a thirteen space faculty/staff parking area and a UMKC parking permit will be required.
  • There will be an additional parking space reserved for handicap parking placed in Area 37 located directly behind 4747 Troost. This lot will consist of 2 handicap parking spaces and 13 faculty/staff permit parking spaces.
  • Most of parking Area 99, which is located behind and to the north of 4747 Troost, will be demolished making way for the new 48th street. About 10 spaces will remain in this parking area and those spaces will be reserved for grant parking visitors to 4747 Troost. There will be no faculty/staff permit parking in this area.
