UMKC Student Health and Wellness is staffed by two nurse practitioners,
registered nurses and an administrative assistant. Several student
assistants are also part of the staff.

| Melissa Smith |
 |
|
Melissa Smith has nursing experience in emergency
room, medical-surgical, cardiovascular and operating room
nursing. She graduated with a BSN from East Carolina University
in Greenville, North Carolina, received her MSN from the University
of Tennessee in Memphis, Tennessee, and post master's FNP
program also at UT-Memphis. She is certified nationally as
a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has worked in different clinics,
both outpatient and inpatient departments, rehab/neuro units
and emergency department clinics.
Melissa works in a part time capacity at Student Health to
assess and treat illnesses. She is also currently employed
at the UMKC School of Nursing. |

| Marny Robinson |
 |
|
Marny Robinson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Communication from UMKC. She received her Bachelor of Nursing
degree from the Accelerated Option Program at Research College
of Nursing in 1994. The majority of her nursing career has
been in public health where community education is a priority.
She also holds a Master of Science degree in Community Health
Administration and Wellness Promotion.
Marny takes the initial history from patients, administers
various immunizations and medications and collects lab specimens.
She also assists with campus outreach activities when necessary.
Marny teaches Basic Life Support to the employees and staff
at Saint Joseph Health Center and courses in Health Information
Technology and Medical Assisting at Sanford-Brown College.

| Eileen Amari-Vaught |
 |
|
Eileen Amari-Vaught has nursing experience
in labor and delivery and postpartum nursing. She received
her BSN from University of Kansas. Eileen begins the Masters
in nursing program at University of Kansas in August, 2004.
She also holds a Masters and Ph.D. in Philosophy with a concentration
in Medical Ethics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Prior to beginning her career in nursing, Eileen taught philosophy
courses as an adjunct instructor at several colleges and universities
in Philadelphia, PA and at University of Missouri, Kansas
City.
Eileen takes the initial history from patients, administers
immunizations and medication and collects lab specimens. Eileen
is involved in organizing the new Peer Education program in
the Student Health and Wellness Center.

| Lisa Sobba |
 |
|
Lisa Sobba holds a Bachelor of Science, Pharmacy
from the University of Kansas . She has been a pharmacist
for over twenty years with experience primarily in retail
and community pharmacy. Her work experience also includes
mail-order pharmacy and wholesale distribution of drugs.
Lisa is a current member of the Missouri Pharmacist's Association.
In addition to her Missouri pharmacy license she also holds
licenses in Kansas , Arkansas , Tennessee , and Michigan .
Lisa is a part-time pharmacist in the new Student Health
Pharmacy located in the Student Health and Wellness Clinic.
The pharmacy is scheduled to open summer of 2004 and will
carry a limited number of medications which will be available
to the UMKC community. |

Role Descriptions |

| |
A nurse practitioner (NP) is a nurse
with advanced education in primary care who is licensed by the state
and certified nationally to assess, diagnose and treat acute health
problems and stable chronic health problems. The nurse practitioner
may write prescriptions as appropriate for non-scheduled medications.
The nurse practitioner in Missouri has a collaborating physician
who provides consultation.
A registered nurse (RN) is a nurse licensed by
the state to perform nursing functions including taking vital signs
and health histories, administering immunizations and tuberculosis
testing, and other laboratory and treatment activities. The registered
nurse is actively involved in the outreach activities of the clinic
and in providing wellness information and activities.
The administrative assistant is responsible for
the front office functions, which include scheduling appointments,
telephone contacts, providing information, and tracking the financial
issues of Student Health, including determining and coordinating
appropriate charges. |
