Please RSVP at the Commencement website. No tickets are required, but it is important that you register the number of guests you plan to bring to the ceremony. 



If you anticipate the need for special arrangements for a guest of yours, such as wheelchair seating, handicap parking or assistance for the hearing impaired, please note this on the RSVP website or contact your Commencement Admin; Chrystal Headd,



Candidates must purchase cap and gown at the University Bookstore.


Regalia etiquette: During the first part of the ceremony the tassel is worn on the right side. When degrees are conferred you will move tassel to the left side. Women wear caps throughout the ceremony. Men remove their caps during the National Anthem. Hoods are draped over the right arm. Hooding instructions can be found here:



Parking, including handicapped is available at the Student Success Center, Performing Arts Center, the Cherry Street Parking Structure and all other campus parking lots. Maps and directions available online:

All parking is complimentary.



  1. Doors to Swinney will be open at approximately 12:00 p.m. for guests.
  2. All candidates must arrive NO LATER THAN 12:15 p.m., dressed in cap, gown and carrying hood (if applicable). Report to Pierson Auditorium in the Student Success Center. Leave all personal items with family members. Candidates should not carry any items during processional. Personal items may not be left in Pierson during ceremony, they will not be secure.
  3. Find the School of Medicine table and pick up your name card. Please remain close by and listen for instructions from Petra and Robyn on how to line up.
  4. You will receive instructions on how to walk, where to sit, and how to walk across the stage for the reading of names.                  




Students should check their Pathway prior to Dec 1 to ensure that they have no holds on their accounts. Any holds should be resolved and removed, as they may delay or hold the student’s diploma or transcript.



Students with anticipated Latin Honors will be notified by the School of Medicine Commencement coordinator as soon as the list is available. Medals will be available at the name card table on the day of the ceremony.
