School of Pharmacy

The School of Pharmacy graduation/commencement ceremony will be held on Friday, May 13th, beginning at 1:00pm in Swinney Recreation Center, 5030 Holmes Street, Kansas City, MO. This ceremony will include recognition of all UMKC Pharmacy graduates – both Pharm D. and Ph.D.  No limit has been set on the number of guests you can invite to the ceremony, and there is no cost to attend nor will tickets be necessary. The pharmacy commencement ceremony will consist of Provost's address, keynote speaker, academic honors recognition, conferral of degrees and individual recognition of each pharmacy graduate crossing the stage as well as a pharmacy alumnus “Welcome to the Alumni” address.  The ceremony should last approximately 75 minutes. Guests can begin seating in Swinney [entrance is through the doors on the north side of the building closest to the Atterbury Student Success Center] beginning at noon.

If you plan to participate in the School of Pharmacy Graduation Ceremony, you will need to have the appropriate regalia. The academic dress for the Pharm.D. and Ph.D. degree candidates must be purchased through the UMKC Bookstore.
Pharm.D. students have already turned in regalia [cap, gown, hood & tassel] orders to the Pharmacy Student Affairs so their orders are processed all at one time.  Tassel and velvet colors, both gown and hood, for Pharm.D. regalia is olive green.
Pharmacy Ph.D. students must go to the UMKC Volker Campus Bookstore to purchase their regalia.   Ph.D. graduates will wear black velvet gowns, blue velvet hoods and gold tassels.

Pharm.D. students will be able to pick up their regalia from the UMKC Volker Bookstore either during the Grad Fair or anytime thereafter, but pharmacy regalia must be picked up by April 18th.  Since students are purchasing their regalia, they will be yours to keep after graduation.
Unless otherwise requested, regalia orders for Pharm.D. students at MU will be sent via courier to the Mizzou Store and will be available to pick up in Columbia anytime beginning March 21st. MU pharmacy students should e-mail Shelly Janasz [], no later than March 10th, if you prefer that your regalia remain at the UMKC Bookstore in KC.  NOTE, if you are a KC pharmacy student and wish to have your regalia sent to the Mizzou Store, please also contact Shelly.

Graduates will be allowed to make phonetic corrections on the card during the instructions prior to the ceremony and the faculty announcer will practice reading names aloud with each graduate before the ceremony.
