School of Pharmacy graduates will participate in the UMKC Mid-Year Commencement ceremony that will be held on Friday, December 19th, at 1:00 pm in Swinney Recreation Center, 5030 Holmes Street, Kansas City, MO. This ceremony will include recognition of graduates from multiple academic programs including the UMKC Pharmacy graduates. No limit has been set on the number of guests you can invite to the ceremony, and there is no cost to attend nor will tickets be necessary. However, it is critical that you RSVP for the ceremony through the UMKC Commencement website at http://www.umkc.edu/commencement/. The commencement ceremony should last approximately 75 minutes. Guests can begin seating in Swinney [doors on the north side closest to the University Center] at noon.
If you plan to participate in the School of Pharmacy Graduation Ceremony, you will must have the appropriate regalia. Ph.D. students must have cap, gown, tassel and hood. Students must purchase their regalia individually through the UMKC Volker Bookstore in the Student Union.
Robing and Instructions
Graduates only should report to Pierson Auditorium, in the Student Success Center, no later than 12 noon, with cap, gown, tassel and hood for line up and instructions regarding procession and recognition during the ceremony. Graduates will process from Pierson into Swinney Recreation Center beginning approximately at 12:55 pm.
Please leave purses, cameras, balloon, flowers, etc with your guests. There will be no secure place to store these items during the commencement ceremony.
During instructions and line up, graduates will be issued an announcing card. This card will have the graduate's diploma name on it. Graduates will take this card and hand it to the faculty announcer during the ceremony as they process across stage. Graduates will be allowed to make phonetic corrections on the card during the lineup and the faculty announcer will practice reading names aloud with each graduate before the ceremony begins. PhD. and Pharm.D. graduates will be hooded during the commencement ceremony; therefore, you will carry your hood during the processional. You must practice hooding with your faculty advisor during the line up with instruction prior you the ceremony.
Accessibility and Parking
Graduates and guests can park at various locations on campus. The parking lots in closest proximity to Swinney Recreation Center are the University Center and the parking structure that is just west of the UMKC Soccer Stadium. The UMKC Commencement website provides more details with maps and other information.
There will be disability parking spaces available in the Performing Arts Center [PAC] Parking Lot. Students who anticipate needing any special arrangements for family and friends who are in wheelchairs, using walkers, or need special assistance for hearing impaired should contact Shelly Janasz at 816-235-2400, no later than December 1st, so arrangements can be made.
