PURCHASING ACADEMIC REGALIA
Regalia may be purchased in the in the UMKC Bookstore, located in the the Student Union (on 51st & Cherry) starting on March 12th up until graduation. If you attend the Graduation Fair in the UMKC Bookstore on Tuesday, March 12th (10:00 am to 7:00 pm) and Wednesday, March 13th (8:00 am to 5:00 pm), you will receive a 10% discount on your regalia. The academic dress for your specific degree must be purchased: cap, gown, tassel (and hood for graduate students). There will be a professional photographer taking pictures at the Graduation Fair. Appropriate regalia must be worn as follows: .

- Caps are worn horizontally, with the tassel on the right side

Name Cards
Name cards should be picked one hour prior to the ceremony in Pierson Auditorium (located inside the Atterbury Student Success Center). The announcement card will have your name and your degree. In the upper right hand corner of the announcement card, there will be a letter and a number written in BLUE ink. The letter and number will tell you where you need to stand in the line. There will be an overhead projector that will show you where your corresponding letter and number is in the line. There will be staff who can answer any questions that you may have. Don’t hesitate to ask them if you don’t know where you should be in-line. **Bring only your regalia; the security of other possessions in Pierson Auditorium will not be guaranteed.
LATIN HONORS MEDALLION
If your name card is marked “with Latin Honors” indicating you are graduating with “Summa, Magna, or cum Laude”, you will be directed to the Information Table, which will be located inside Pierson Auditorium (Rm 245 of the Student Success Center).
PROCESSION
The procession will start in Pierson Auditorium (Rm 245 of the Student Success Center). The academic procession begins with degree candidates. Your Faculty Marshall will lead you to the correct row of seats and will indicate to you when you need to go up on stage. Remain standing through the procession and the National Anthem.

If you need special seating for you or your family, contact Rosa Nunez at (816) 235-2459 or nunezr@umkc.edu. When you RSVP for the ceremony, you should also indicate that you need special seating. Reminder, the RSVP site will be activated in early March 2013.
GRADUATION PHOTOS
A representative from GradTrak will attend. They will take handshakes and posed photos during the ceremony. Chappell will mail proofs and ordering information within four weeks of the ceremony. If you do not receive your mailing, visit their Web site at www.gradtrak.com/, or contact them directly at 800-628-4509.HOODING INSTRUCTIONS FOR PHD STUDENTS (Doctoral Students Only)
Candidates should have hood across right arm as they approach the stage. Hooders should be at center stage. Under the table with diploma covers, there is a small box to stand upon if needed. Hooders receive hood from student. Faculty should face the audience, and student will also face audience until hooding is completed. Student walks in front of the faculty member, turns with back to faculty member (bending at knees if taller than hooder). Hooder drapes hood over shoulders of candidate and adjusts hood so colors are showing. Once done, faculty member taps student on shoulder. Student and faculty member shake hands; student goes next to Dean and Chancellor to shake hands, receive diploma cover, and exit stage. Student returns to seat and sits down. Hooder returns to seat. Robing and Schedule
- Honors Reception will be held 4:30-6:00pm on the Bloch Terrace. Recognition will start at 5:00pm. Students being honored will receive invitations. Recognition will be given to undergraduates, graduate, and EMBA students. Everyone is welcome to attend. Students attending are required to wear their graduation cap and gown to the ceremony.
- Arrive at the Henry W. Bloch School Student Lounge NO LATER THAN 6:15 p.m., please dress in your cap and gown. Pick up name card from tables and find your place in line. Leave all personal items with family members, as there will not be a secure place to store these items in the Bloch School.
- At this time you will receive instructions on how to walk in processional, where to sit in Swinney, and how to walk across the stage for the reading of names.
- Procession begins at 6:55 p.m. sharp from Bloch School into Swinney Recreation Center.
- Commencement ceremony begins at 7 pm.

The Dean’s Commencement Breakfast Reception, 5th Floor of Flarsheim Hall, 5110 Rockhill Road, KCMO 64110 on the UMKC Campus. Please save the date and invite your family and friends to attend with you. Official invitations will be sent to all May Graduates via email in mid-April requesting an RSVP and the number of guests attending with you.
Your family will enjoy attending if they are able, so please ask them to save this time to spend with you.

Graduates must go to Robing Ceremony Preparations in Pierson of the Student Success Center.
Bring only your cap, gown, and tassel.
Undergraduate degree recipients wear their tassels on the right side of the mortarboard.
Graduate Degree recipients wear their tassels on the left side of the mortarboard.
Tassels for Computer Science are gold and Engineering is orange. The Bookstore shelved them side by side for ease of locating.
You may wish to use bobby pins to hold your mortarboard in place and safety to pins to secure your regalia. Please bring them with you.

General Information
- • All those planning to walk at the Commencement Ceremony must wear regalia. Graduates can order a cap, gown, hood, and tassel at the UMKC Bookstore.
- A graduation guide will be emailed to SCE graduates late March/early April
- Graduates MUST NOT carry anything in their hands during the ceremony. Give your personal belongings, such as purses, cameras and other possessions, to your guests for safekeeping. If you have no guests to take your things, try to plan accordingly, but there will be a repository to hold them during the ceremony. Your items can be retrieved from the CME Department immediately after the ceremony. There is no food, drink, or smoking allowed inside Swinney Recreation Center.
- You will not receive your actual diploma during the ceremony. Diplomas will be available for pick up after 45 days from the end of the semester at the Registrar’s Office, Room 115, 5115 Oak Street, Kansas City, MO 64110. After 60 days, diplomas will be mailed to the address provided on your application for graduation. If you have an address change, please update the information in Pathway.
- There will be no time for personal pictures prior to the Ceremony. Arrangements for taking personal photographs can be made after the Ceremony.

Regalia may be purchased at the UMKC Bookstore. The academic dress for the Ph.D. doctoral degrees will be rented and the academic dress for the undergraduate BSDH, DDS and Master degrees must be purchased. Tassel color for DDS and BSDH degrees is lilac, and the tassel color for Ph.D. is Gold. The hood color for the DDS degree is lilac, certificate students will wear the hood color from their individual schools, and for the Ph.D. the hood is royal blue.
All graduating students must attend the GRAD FAIR (March 12 & 13 ) in the Student Union on the Volker Campus to order and/or purchase your regalia.

If you order on-line during those two days you will receive the 10% discount too. The academic dress for the Nursing degree must be purchased. The tassel color for BSN, MSN and DNP degrees is Apricot, and the tassel color for Ph.D. in Nursing is Gold. The hood for the MSN and DNP is Apricot, and for Ph.D. the hood is Royal Blue.

PHARMACY COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
The School of Pharmacy graduation/commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 18th, beginning at 1:00pm in Swinney Recreation Center, 5030 Holmes Street, Kansas City, MO. This ceremony will include recognition of all UMKC Pharmacy graduates. (BS, Pharm D., and Ph.D.) No limit has been set on the number of guests you can invite to the ceremony, and there is no cost to attend nor will tickets be necessary. The pharmacy commencement ceremony will consist of Provost's address, keynote speaker, conferral of degrees and individual recognition of each pharmacy graduate crossing the stage as well as a pharmacy alumnus welcome to the alumni address. The ceremony should last approximately 75 minutes. Guests can begin seating in Swinney [entrance is through the doors on the north side of the building closest to the University Center] at noon.
Purchasing Regalia
If you plan to participate in the School of Pharmacy Graduation Ceremony, you will need to have the appropriate regalia. The academic dress for the Pharm.D., BS Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Ph.D. degree candidates must be purchased through the UMKC Bookstore. Tassel color for BSPS and Pharm.D. degrees is olive green and tassel color for Ph.D. is gold. The hood color for the Pharm.D. degree is olive green and the hood color for the Ph.D. degree is royal blue. .
Pharm.D. students should have already turned in regalia [cap, gown, hood & tassel] order forms to the Pharmacy Student Affairs so their orders will be processed all at one time. Ph.D. and BSPS graduates must purchase their regalia individually through the UMKC Volker Bookstore located in the Student Union. Students may order/purchase regalia during the UMKC Grad Fair on March 12 & 13.
Robing and Instructions
Graduates only should report to Pierson Auditorium [located on the second level of the Atterbury Student Success Center] no later than 12 noon with their regalia, for line up and commencement ceremony procession and recognition instructions. Graduates will process from Pierson Auditorium into Swinney Recreation Center beginning at 12:55 p.m. During instructions and line up, graduates will be issued an announcing card. This card will have the graduate's diploma name printed on it. Graduates will take this card and hand it to the pharmacy faculty announcer during the ceremony as they process across stage. Graduates will be allowed to make phonetic corrections on the card during the lineup and the faculty announcer will practice reading names aloud with each graduate before the ceremony begins. PhD. and Pharm.D. graduates will be hooded during the commencement ceremony; therefore, you will carry your hood during the processional. You will have time to practice hooding during the line up with instructions prior to the ceremony.
PLEASE leave purses, phones, cameras, balloons, flowers, etc. with your family/guests. These items will not be secure in Pierson Auditorium during the commencement ceremony and cannot be left.
RECEPTION
ACCESSIBILITY & PARKING
Graduates and guests can park at various locations on campus. The parking lots in closest proximity to Swinney Recreation Center are the Atterbury Student Success Center, the large lot on the east side of the Biology/Chemistry building, and the parking structure on the west side of the UMKC Soccer Stadium. The UMKC Commencement website will provide more details with maps and other information as they become available.
There will be disability parking spaces available in the Performing Arts Center [PAC] Parking Lot. Students who anticipate needing any special arrangements for family and friends who are in wheelchairs, using walkers, or need special assistance for hearing impaired should contact Shelly Janasz at 816-235-2400, no later than May 6th, so arrangements can be made and special instructions can be provided.
