UMKC Counseling Center

Kelly Caver, M.S.

Kelly received her B.S. in Psychology from Texas Christian University and her M.S. in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University, where she is currently a doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology.  Her clinical experiences come from a variety of treatment settings, including university counseling centers, a community counseling center, and a Veterans Affairs hospital.  Kelly utilizes an integrative approach to therapy, with elements of person-centered, cognitive, and interpersonal process theories and techniques.  She believes the most effective changes originate from clients and their own strengths even though they may need more support at times in developing coping strategies.  Her clinical interests include couples counseling, relationship concerns, grief and loss, assessment, and the treatment and prevention of traumatic experiences, particularly sexual assault.  In addition, she enjoys working with adults in identity and career development, including the exploration of spirituality, gender, and cultural factors.  Kelly also enjoys trying out KC area restaurants, concerts, traveling, and jogging and cycling when motivated enough to make time for exercise.
