| "Sublimated City" | |
| A City is the outcome of infinite layers of fingerprints and experiences coming from millions of choices, unintended acts, conversations and confrontations. Each provides an extraordinary account of the urban fabric. Sublimated City seeks to explore, understand, and contextualize the issues of community as it relates to Kansas City, and to provide a forum for public response to the problem of dispersal and fragmentation we all face in contemporary society. | |
| The G.A.P. Project | |
| Genetic Aurilization research Project: Using sound with DNA coding to assist researchers in comparing gene types, and creating a musical composition that highlights genetic differences. | |

Symposium - 'The Sublimated City: Secret Places, Hidden Desires, and the Public Realm' May 31, 2006 5:30-7:30 PM Paragraph Gallery/Urban Culture Project – 23 E. 12th Street, Kansas City, MO Several months ago, the Center for Creative Studies at UMKC set out to uncover how Kansas City’s citizenry interacts and reacts to “their” Kansas City. The project ,Sublimated City, provided a structure that encouraged citizen participation through contributing answers to a series of questions from the perspective of sight, sound, smell, touch, emotion, and color. Patterns emerging from the questionnaire suggest that Kansas City is a domain of experience and memory that facilitates particular structures of meaning. One of these is a consistent detachment from the city itself. The Sublimated City: Secret Places, Hidden Desires, and the Public Realm will further explore these findings. The symposium is sponsored by the UMKC Center for Creative Studies and the Urban Culture Project. |
