Careers

Missouri certified school teachers:

  • Early Childhood Education (Birth - Grade 3)
  • Elementary Education (Grades 1-6)
  • Middle School Education (Grades 5-9) in Langauge Arts, Math, Science or Social Studies
  • Secondary Education (Grades 9-12) in English, Math, Science or Social Studies
  • K-12 (Kindergarten - Grade 12) in Art, Foreign Language and Music
  • Students also have the opportunity to receive Kansas teacher certification.

Admission Requirements

  • Freshmen and transfer students may apply to UMKC as pre-education and are admitted based on general University requirements.
  • Candidates for admission to the School of Education are required to have completed all but 9 credit hours of their general education and pre-education coursework with a 2.75 cumulative GPA at the time of application.
  • Middle School, Secondary and K-12 applicants must also have a minimum 2.5 subject area GPA for admission.
  • Applicants who have graduated from high school within five years of admission to teacher education program must also submit a score for either the ACT or SAT exam.
  • A passing score on all sections of the College Basic Academic Subjects Examination (C-BASE) is required of all students.

  • About 96 percent of the full-time faculty members hold their doctoral degrees, earned at major colleges and universities.
