Why UMKC?

  • A liberal arts degree is the perfect choice for students who prefer an education that incorporates humanities, natural sciences and social sciences without the restriction of a specialty.
  • From nonprofit sectors to Fortune 100 companies, Kansas City offers ample opportunities for internships and networking with professionals. The liberal arts program at UMKC produces students with a broad-spectrum foundation of knowledge and skills employers look for, including thinking and problem-solving abilities, written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, ability to work in teams, adaptability to change and multicultural awareness.

Fast facts

  • For students who have other full-time commitments at work or home, it is possible to earn this degree by attending evening and weekend courses through UMKC’s Program for Adult College Education (PACE), cas.umkc.edu/pace
  • Research shows that people with a liberal arts education move from entry-level jobs into management positions at a higher rate than people with business, technical or vocational backgrounds, partly because they are able to learn different things very quickly.
  • The B.L.A. is perfect for students who would like to get a diversified degree and then pursue graduate work or law school before seeking full-time employment.

Faculty

The faculty for the B.L.A. come from a broad range of Arts and Sciences disciplines and departments, including those from humanities, natural sciences and social sciences.
