Admission requirements

• All students interested in obtaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering must earn an ACT score of 25 in Math and a composite ACT score of 24.
• Transfer students must have a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) at each institution and a final term GPA of 2.0.
• Students who do not meet the above criteria may petition for admission.

Fast facts

• The Fast Track program offers students an opportunity to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering in four years and the master’s degree the fifth year.  
• Only ABET-accredited engineering program in the Kansas City metropolitan area 
• 99 percent of our seniors have one or more job offers upon graduation
• Located in the fourth largest engineering community, many firms offer students internships and part-time works while they go to school 

Faculty

• Many of our faculty members are licensed professional engineers.
• Many of our adjunct faculty work as professional engineers in the area and provide real-life expertise to our students.
• Provide many different research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in biomechanics, power, refrigeration applications, materials and transportation.

Our mechanical engineering students are involved in more than 15 student organizations, including:

• American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
• National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
• National Society/Missouri Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE/MSPE)
• Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)
• Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
• Society of Women Engineers (SWE) 
• American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineering (ASHRAE)
• Tau Beta Pi (TBP) - National Engineering Honor Society

Our mechanical engineering students also participate in the following team competitions:

• Baja Buggy (SAE) 
• Human Powered Vehicle (ASME)
