Real World Experience

  • The School of Education has developed a close relationship with a number of public schools in the Kansas City metropolitan area, offering exceptional diversity for field experience and opportunities for observation, student teaching and demonstrations.

Careers

  • Missouri certified school teacher for grades fifth-ninth in four possible subject areas (language arts, math, science and social studes).
  • Students will complete 30 hours in one subject area or 21 hours in two or more subject areas.
  • Students have the opportunity to receive Kansas teacher certification.

Salaries

Starting salaries:

  • Bachelor's level graduate, $26,000 per year

Admission Requirements

  • Freshmen and transfer students may apply to UMKC as pre-education and are admitted based on general University requirements.
  • Candidates for admission to the School of Education are required to have completed all but 9 credit hours of their general education and pre-education coursework with a 2.75 cumulative GPA at the time of application (the deadline is March 1 of each year for admission the following summer).
  • Applicants must also have a minimum 2.5 subject area GPA for admission.
  • Applicants who have graduated from high school within five years of admission to the Teacher Education program must also submit a score for either the ACT or SAT exam.
  • All students must submit a passing score on the College Basic Academic Subjects Examination (C-BASE).
