Admission Requirements
Any interested student may gain entry into the pre-health program; there are no admission requirements beyond the regular admission requirements for the University.
Prerequisite Courses
Major Courses
Students participating in the pre-health program will combine their pre-health coursework with a major of their choosing in the natural sciences, social sciences, or humanities. Therefore, the major courses required depend upon the major the student chooses.
Professional schools typically require a mix of natural sciences, social sciences and the humanities. Pre-health advisers help students select the correct courses for their particular pre-health program. However, core courses for pre-medical and pre-dental programs commonly include:
- one year of biology,
- one year of general chemistry,
- one year of organic chemistry,
- one year of physics,
- one year of English composition and
- one semester of college algebra.
Other Programs Available
An optional minor in Healing and Humanities enables students to explore the complicated nature of health-care relationships by integrating knowledge from the arts and humanities with the social and natural sciences.
Faculty
- The interdisciplinary nature of preparation for health professional schools allows students to learn from faculty in areas including natural and social sciences and the humanities.
- The College of Arts and Sciences faculty includes several Fulbright Scholars, seven University of Missouri Curators’ Professors (the university’s highest teaching distinction) and many recipients of outstanding research and teaching awards.
