Admission requirements

  • Freshmen and transfer students may apply to UMKC as pre-education and are admitted based on general university requirements.
  • Candidates for admission to the School of Education are required to have completed all but 9 credit hours of their general education and pre-education coursework with a 2.75 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at the time of application (the deadline is March 1 of each year for admission the following summer). Applicants must also have a minimum 2.5 subject area GPA for admission.
  • Applicants who have graduated from high school within five years of admission to the Teacher Education program must also submit a score for either the ACT or SAT exam.
  • All students must submit a passing score on the College Basic Academic Subjects Examination (C-BASE).

  • Approximately 75 percent of full-time faculty members have classroom experience at the elementary or secondary levels in addition to their college teaching experience.
