Disability Services

Office of Services for Students with Disabilities: Assists UMKC students with disabilities by providing academic accommodations and support services.

Diversity, Access and Equity: The Division of Diversity, Access and Equity combines the efforts of the former Diversity In Action and Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action offices. They assist faculty and staff members with disabilities.

Disability Advisory Committee: The Advisory Committee on UMKC Students with Disabilities is a partnership with the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities, the UMKC Campus and UMKC’s students with disabilities for the purpose of advising and consulting on the campus-wide experience of students with disabilities with the expectation that the success of students with disabilities at UMKC is everyone’s responsibility.

Chancellor's Diversity Council  The Chancellor's Diversity Council is drafting the Diversity Strategic Plan for the University of Missouri-Kansas City. 

Miller Nichols Library Services for Individuals with Disabilities: The Miller Nichols Library is committed to providing access to information and library resources for all users and has adaptive technology workstations with screen reading and magnifying software, scanner-readers, CCTVs, and Braille embossers to enable this access.

Hospital Hill Libraries Services for Individuals with Disabilities: The Dental and Health Sciences Libraries are committed to providing services and assistance to all members of the UMKC community.

IS Computer Labs Adaptive Equipment: Many of the UMKC’s computer labs provide adaptive equipment for persons with visual disabilities or wheelchair access needs. This equipment consists of tables with adjustable height, screen magnifiers and text-to-speech software.

Assess for Success: The Assess for Success program helps students with academic performance by providing a cost-effective assessment service targeted to individual needs. The program is designed for individuals who may be experiencing difficulty due to study skills, unique learning styles, test anxiety, learning disabilities, or attention and focus issues.

Institute for Human Development: The Institute for Human Development is an applied research and training center for human services. It exemplifies UMKC’s dedication to academic excellence and a campus without borders by helping people, agencies, and the community reach their fullest potential.
