Requesting a certificate

  1. First you will need to get a private key certificate from https://kc-iscs-ca1.kc.umkc.edu/certsrv. (Login with your UMKC account username and password). 
    You have to use either your email address or umkc-users\<username> for the username field.
  2. Select "Request a certificate"
  3. Select "Create and submit a request to this CA"
  4. Choose "Recoverable User for the Certificate Template and click Submit.
  5. Click Yes when you get a window pop up as seen below.

     
  6. Finally, click on "Install this certificate".
     

Exporting your Private Key

  1. Using Internet Explorer, click on Tools and select Internet Options.
  2. Click on the Content tab.
  3. Click on the Certificates button in the Certificates section.
  4. You should see your certificate name listed on the Personal tab like the one below.

     
  5. Select your certificate name and click on Export.
  6. Click Next on the Certificate Export Wizard window.
  7. Select Yes, export the private key and click Next.
  8. Check both Include all certificates in the certification path if possible and Enable strong protection.

     
  9. Type in the password for your Private Key and click Next.
  10. Type in the location where you want to save your private key and click Next.
  11. Click Finish when you're done.
  12. Click OK on Exporting your private exchange Key window

     

Installing your certificate for AIM.

  1. Go into the preferences settings of your AIM
  2. Select Security option under the Category (at the bottom).
  3. Click on Advanced button and click on Import.
  4. Change the Files of type to PFX(*.pfx) and browse to your Private Key certificate
  5. Double click on your private key file or select it and click Open.
  6. Type in the password for your Private Key and click OK.
  7. Click OK on the following window.

     
  8. Select your certificate for the two fields in the Certificates section of your AIM security.


     
  9. Click OK when you're done.
