Mail Services

What are your hours of operation?

We are open from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. All mail intended to go out the same day must be received in our office no later than 2:00 p.m. If you miss the cutoff time, your mail will be sent the next business day.

How many times does the Post Office pick up mail from the mail room?

USPS picks up once per day, between 2:30 - 3:00 p.m.

When does the Courier driver leave?

The courier leaves at 7 a.m. and returns to UMKC at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

If inter-campus mail is picked up today, when will it be delivered?

All inter-campus mail is delivered the following business day.

What time is mail picked up from the boxes in the Administrative Center?

Mail is picked up between 3:00 - 3:30 p.m.

Does the mail room keep mail that cannot be delivered?

We do not. All mail is sorted and delivered. Any unidentified mail is opened by the Supervisor and forwarded to the appropriate person.

What type of specialty mail does the Mail Room offer?

We offer Certified mail with return receipt, Express, Insured and Priority mail.

What is the cost to mail a one-ounce letter or standard postcard?

Please visit the USPS website and click on "calculate postage".

What do I do if I have a large mailing?

Please contact Mail Services to discuss the most economical way to process your mailing.

How do I get a large mailing picked up?

Please call 816-235-1349 before Noon for same-day large mailing pick up.

Calls received after Noon will be picked up the next business day.

Should the letter flaps be up or down?

All letter flaps should be down.

How do I change my campus address?

Please contact Human Resources to update your file with the correct information. Please also notify Mail Services so that we may redirect your mail.

How do get mail for a previous employee re-routed?

If an employee leaves your department, please notify Mail Services with forwarding information so that we may redirect the mail.

Can UPS or Fed Ex packages be delivered directly to my office?

  • All UPS and Fed Ex packages can be delivered directly to your office if you provide the vendor with your physical mailing address (building, street address, and room number).
    Mail addressed to 5100 Rockhill will be delivered to Mail Services.
  • A package or box received by Mail Services that will fit into a mailbag and weighs less than 5 lbs., will be placed in your mailbag for delivery. All packages are delivered within two days.
  • If a package or box does not fit into a mail bag, you will be notified of it's arrival and at that time choose whether to have it delivered to you or held for pick up. Delivery charges apply per mail piece.

Information needed to track a shipment:

  • Courier name or delivery service
  • Name of person to whom shipment is addressed
  • Date of delivery
  • Tracking number
  • Name of person who signed for package

How do I change or inactivate a MoCode with Mail Services?

Bulk Mailing

What are your hours of operation?

What is a bulk mailing?

A bulk mailing consists of 200 or more pieces that are absolutely identical in size and weight.

What information do I send for a bulk mail job?

  • Please send the mailing list, MoCode and Work Authorization Form.
  • All mailing lists should be emailed to Mail Services.

How long will it take to send bulk mail?

Standard jobs take two days.

Can bulk mail be processed the same day?

Yes; however, we charge a fee for rush jobs. Rush jobs must be in our office before Noon.

What do you do with the extra material that is left from the job?

Extra mailing materials are sent back to the person responsible for the mailing.

Where do I get a Bulk Mail Request form?

Bulk Mail Request can be completed online.
