Textbook Buyback
There aren’t too many items that can be purchased, used for a few months and then returned to the store for cash. During the last two weeks of the Fall and Winter semesters, an independent wholesale book company conducts book buyback to help the campus bookstore fill the textbook department with used books required for the upcoming semester.  During this time, students can sell back their textbooks for cash.  If an instructor has requested a particular book for the next semester, the bookstore will pay up to 50% of the new price until the order is filled. Even if you originally bought the book for the used price, you’ll still get 50% of the new book price if the book is needed. If a textbook is not required for the upcoming semester or if an instructor has not yet turned in their order, the wholesale book company may buy back your textbooks to fill orders at other colleges and universities.  They may offer UMKC students 0 - 30% of the new book price. Sometimes, books cannot be bought back due to a newer edition being used or if the book is in an un-saleable condition.

Convenient Payment Options
Customers may use Cash, Personal Checks, Credit Cards (MC, Visa, & Discover), Student Charge, Roo Bucks, and UMKC Bookstore Gift Cards.  A valid state/government photo ID is required for personal check transactions and a valid UMKC ID is required to use student charge or Roo Bucks accounts.  Student Charge is available for financially enrolled students. Student Charge allows students to purchase bookstore items with their UMKC ID and charge it to their University account.   Financial enrollment means that a student has made the minimum educational fee payment for the academic semester. A student may not use Student Charge if they are not officially enrolled for the current semester (if you’re not enrolled for summer school, you cannot use Student Charge during the summer semester). A student may charge a maximum of $1000 per semester.  Once the limit is reached, another form of payment is required.  Making a payment to your University of Missouri bill will not adjust the balance back to $1000.

Returns
We guarantee any item we sell without reservation. For most items, we will gladly make an exchange, credit or refund within 10 days of your purchase. The original receipt and packaging/tags are required. Items must be returned in their original, saleable condition. Computer software and electronics must be unopened and include a valid, transferable license. Additional restrictions apply, see stores for details.

Course Material Provisions
For Fall & Summer semesters, we extend our usual return grace period to accommodate course material returns within 14 days from the official start date of the semester, with a receipt. After the first 14 days of the semester you will receive a percentage of the original price back on textbooks based on the University’s tuition refund schedule (these dates and percentages will be posted in the UMKC Bookstores).  Summer semester textbook refunds and exchanges will be allowed for 3 business days from the date of purchase, with a receipt.  No textbook returns are allowed during the last two weeks of any semester. Special restrictions apply to Roo Packs, study guides, lab manuals, and custom packages, see store for details.
