The CHTC combines the services of student health care, psychological counseling and testing to provide for the mental, physical and organizational wellbeing of the students, staff, faculty and the University organization itself in a culturally sensitive environment. The personal and academic pursuits of students are supported through testing services. Preventative and programmatic activities support the development and maintenance of a healthy, confident community of learners on the University campus.
The Mind-Body Connection, provides students with educational and supportive services that enhance their skills related to physical, mental and emotional health, all in support of their academic success.
Furthermore, the MindBody Connection aims to provide students with the life skills necessary to flourish and thrive, both while students and throughout their lifespan development, by helping them identify and capitalize on their personal strengths, access campus and community resources, all in the pursuit of overall well-being.
The Counseling Service, offers professional individual, couples, crisis, and group psychological counseling to all students. The staff consists of licensed psychologists, doctoral psychology interns, and supervised counselors in advanced training. They offer confidential assistance with a wide range of emotional, relationship, social, and academic matters. These matters may be of a short-term or long-standing nature. Examples include interpersonal conflict, stress management, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, lack of motivation, relationship issues, and response to crisis or loss in your life. Presentations, workshops, training, self-help materials and assessment services are also available to you or your organization.
The Assess for Success program helps students with academic performance by providing a cost-effective assessment service targeted to individual needs. The program is designed for individuals who may be experiencing difficulty due to study skills, unique learning styles, test anxiety, learning disabilities, or attention and focus issues. With a wide range of assessment tools (determined on a case-by-case basis), our goal is to provide an assessment process that is individualized and contributes to positive classroom outcomes. The objective is to help each individual maximize their learning potential through scholastic achievement.
The Testing Service, 816-235-1635 or 816-235-5820, delivers a wide variety of national tests for admission, licensure and certification, including ACT, GRE, LSAT, GMAT, MCAT and PRAXIS. The testing service offers computer-based testing for ETS tests (GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, etc.). Computer testing is available weekly through Saturdays (by appointment). Appointments can by made by phone. The testing service supports counseling services with a comprehensive offering of psychological, learning, career and study skills tests.
